Brighter Bites is a Houston-based nonprofit which, in partnership with NTFB, provides hungry children with access to fresh produce and nutrition education. Participating children receive bags containing up to 60 servings of fresh produce, as well as bilingual educational materials such as nutrition handbooks, tip sheets, and recipes incorporating the produce. These materials are linked to children's in-class nutrition lessons. To get kids and their families excited about eating nutritious foods, the Brighter Bites team demonstrates recipes and hands out yummy samples during the produce distribution.
From Our Clients: "Brighter bites has helped introduce me to the kinds of foods overweight kids should be eating. I’ve learned what kinds of fruits and vegetables will help lower my son’s glucose levels."
“Brighter Bites has been a fun program for our family to try new fruits and vegetables. We already eat a large amount of fresh fruits and vegetables but we have enjoyed trying new fruits and vegetables from our weekly bags.”
"Since I started volunteering with Brighter Bites, my breakfast has been oatmeal with a banana, apple, nuts, and honey. That’s what I always eat in the mornings and I don’t get hungry until the afternoon. It has been such a good change for me. From here we can only keep going forward and improving. I want to thank you for helping all the moms and dads feed their kids in a healthier way."
